1. The Iconic 90s Makeup Look

The 90s makeup style is known for its bold, edgy, and sometimes grunge-inspired aesthetics. It was a time of experimenting with color, texture, and attitude, with iconic trends like matte lips, strong brows, and dramatic eyeshadows becoming staples of the decade.

2. Matte Lips: A 90s Essential

Matte lips were a major trend in the 90s, with shades of brown, deep red, and mauve dominating the scene. Lip liners in darker tones were used to create the infamous “overlined” lip look that became synonymous with the decade’s beauty style.

3. The Grunge Influence on Makeup

The grunge movement, led by bands like Nirvana, influenced the makeup of the 90s, giving rise to dark, smudged eyeliner, pale foundation, and unpolished, lived-in looks. It was a rebellion against the overly polished beauty trends of the 80s.

4. Strong Eyebrows: The 90s Brow Revolution

In contrast to the thin, overplucked brows of the 80s, the 90s saw the rise of fuller, more defined brows. Celebrities like Drew Barrymore and Jennifer Aniston helped popularize the thicker, natural-looking brow that would later come back in full force.

5. Smoky Eyes: A Timeless Trend

The smoky eye look became a 90s staple, achieved using dark shades like charcoal, brown, and plum. This sultry and bold makeup technique was perfect for both day and night, making it a versatile choice throughout the decade.

6. Neutral Tones: Eyeshadows and Blush

The 90s were all about neutral tones, especially when it came to eyeshadow and blush. Brown and taupe shades were favored for their ability to enhance natural features, creating a more understated, earthy vibe compared to the vibrant colors of previous decades.

7. The Rise of Lip Liners

Lip liners played a huge role in 90s makeup, often used in darker shades like deep brown, plum, or red. Overlining the lips became a popular technique to create a fuller look, a trend that has made a comeback in recent years.

8. Shimmer and Gloss: A Pop of Shine

While matte lips ruled, lip gloss and shimmer eyeshadows were also big in the 90s. Glossy lips in shades of peach, pink, or clear were seen as youthful and fresh, while shimmer eyeshadows added a touch of glam to otherwise muted looks.

9. 90s Foundations: Matte and Full-Coverage

Foundation in the 90s was all about creating a flawless, matte finish. Full-coverage foundations were used to even out skin tones and cover imperfections, often with a heavier application that helped create a more dramatic, perfected look.

10. The Legacy of 90s Makeup

Many of the 90s makeup trends have come back into style in recent years. From bold brows to matte lips, the 90s beauty influence is still evident in modern makeup trends, with many influencers and makeup artists incorporating nostalgic elements into their looks today.
